Find your material calculator
Search by material, task or common name: plasterboard and sheetrock both find drywall.
28 calculators available.
No calculator matches all those words. Try one material, such as “paint” or “sand”, or browse a category:

One project, separate quantities
Paint a room
Estimate each colour and finish separately; add primer only where the coating system requires it.
Tile a floor or wall
Tile count, adhesive and grout use different inputs. Record tile size and joint width once.
Lay laminate flooring
Start with flooring packs, then estimate any specified underlay and the room’s skirting runs.
Plan a slab or fence posts
A slab uses length, width and depth. Post holes also need the volume occupied by each post deducted.
Build or finish a wall
Mortar fills masonry joints; render covers a face. Choose the quantity that matches the job.
Measure before choosing materials
Use area for a surface and volume for a fill. Keep these measurements separate from whole-pack orders.
Three steps, no account
Pick the calculator
Grouped by the job, not by a category tree. Painting, tiling, flooring, concrete, and the plain area and volume figures the rest are built on.
Type the measurements
The answer updates as you type. Switch between metric and imperial at any point and every field converts with it.
Check the working
Compare your inputs with the formula and worked example, then check the source notes for the assumptions that affect your order.

Measurement basics
The area and volume figures every other calculation on this site starts from.
How a calculator gets built
Each page explains its formula, from straightforward geometry to estimates using material coverage or density. Its source notes distinguish published product guidance from our planning assumptions and explain what the model leaves out. Check your own product label before ordering.
Our automated checks cover selected numerical examples, unit conversion, pack rounding, source notes and site structure. These checks run before a production build can complete. They help catch regressions, but do not verify every sentence or guarantee that a preset suits your project.
Before you order
Measure a room for paint, flooring and tiles: turn a sketch into floor area, net wall area and the right calculator inputs.
Understand waste allowance and pack rounding: follow an 18 m² floor through to a nine-pack order and avoid counting the allowance twice.
Planning a complete room? Use the painting supplies checklist to separate coatings and tools, or the laminate flooring shopping list to include underlay, edges and transitions.
