Cookies and how we use them
This page lists the cookies and similar technologies used on this site, and lets you change your choices at any time.
Change your preferences
What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store. It is read back on later visits, which lets a site remember a preference or recognise a returning device. Similar technologies (local storage, pixels and device identifiers) do comparable jobs and are covered by the same rules and the same choices here.
The site stores unit, theme and consent preferences in your browser. Analytics is optional and loads only after you allow it. Google AdSense connection code can load before a choice, with advertising consent defaults set to denied; see the privacy policy for the distinction between a script request and cookie consent.
Strictly necessary: always active
These preference entries are stored locally. If you allow Analytics, calculator events can include the selected unit system, as described below; they do not include your entered measurements.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| oe_consent | OrderEnough | Remembers your cookie choices in local storage so we do not ask again on every page | 12 months |
| oe_units | OrderEnough | Remembers whether you prefer metric or imperial (local storage) | Until cleared |
| oe_theme | OrderEnough | Remembers your light or dark theme choice (local storage) | Until cleared |
Analytics: only with your consent
If you decline analytics, these are not set. No Analytics measurement is sent before consent. After consent we measure page views, calculator starts and valid results, copy and print actions, views of buying guidance, jumps to that guidance, and affiliate-link clicks. We send the calculator name, unit system, destination domain, product or tool identifier and selected store link (US or NL) where relevant, not your entered measurements. Store-link choices do not identify purchases or the final store after Amazon redirects.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes one browser from another so visits can be counted | Depends on cookie settings and browser controls |
| _ga_<container> | Google Analytics | Maintains the session state for this property | Depends on cookie settings and browser controls |
Advertising cookies and choices
These are examples of cookies associated with Google advertising, not a statement that every listed cookie is set on every visit. Non-personalised ads can still use cookies. Advertising choices and any consent required for storage are separate from whether an ad is personalised.
During the current AdSense review setup, the connection script is present but no manual ad units are configured in the site. The built-in panel records site preferences; it does not offer a list of advertising vendors.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| __gads / __gpi | Measures ad interactions and limits how often you see the same ad | Varies by cookie and settings | |
| IDE / test_cookie | Google DoubleClick | Ad selection and conversion measurement | Varies by cookie and settings |
| NID | Stores advertising preferences | Varies by cookie and settings | |
| Partner cookies | Google advertising partners | May apply when advertising is enabled; the current built-in panel has no vendor list | Vary |
Our consent management platform
Before advertising is enabled, this site uses its built-in preference panel with Google Consent Mode v2. Consent storage defaults are denied before any Google script loads. Analytics loads only after an explicit analytics choice.
The built-in panel is not a Google-certified IAB consent management platform and must not be used to serve AdSense ads in the EEA, UK or Switzerland. Before advertising is enabled, it will be replaced by the certified Google Privacy & messaging platform using the configuration switch documented for this site.
We store your built-in preference record in this browser for 12 months, after which you will be asked again. It is not stored on our servers.
Controlling cookies in your browser
- Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies in its settings, usually under "Privacy". Blocking all cookies will not break this site: the calculators run without them.
- Browser privacy settings and this site’s consent choices are separate controls. Use the preference button above to change the choices stored for this site.
- You can opt out of personalised Google advertising across all sites at adssettings.google.com.
- For a broader industry opt-out, see youronlinechoices.com (EU), or optout.aboutads.info (US).
